Organizing a closet is important, no matter what size it is. But if you have a small closet, organizing it is even more important than ever. Below are five tips that you can use for organizing your small closet.
If you’re saving every single shirt or pair of pants you’ve bought, and your closet is small, it’s not going to matter if you are organized. Your closet is going to look like a mess. You want to declutter your closet and get rid of the things that you don’t wear anymore.
2. Use the Right Hangers
There are a lot of different types of hangers in all types of styles, sizes and shapes. If you use many different types, it can ruin your organization. Even though they don’t have to match, they should be similar in type and size. You also want to hang them all uniform and hanging the same way.
In addition, large shirts that are draped on small hangers are going to wrinkle easier. Hangers that are at different heights also can make it harder for getting the clothes out. So you want to choose one of the basic hangers and a bar. This way they will work for blouses, skirts and pants.
3. Don’t Try Cramming all of the Clothes in Your Closet
It will be hard to organize your clothes in a closet that is small. But if you’re dealing with your daily clothes along with your winter clothes, summer clothes, dressy clothes, and everything else, you’re going to go nuts. So you want to rotate what you wear based on the weather. Think about what you’re going to be wearing the most and hang that up, then put the others on a shelf or on the floor in a box.
4. Don’t Buy a lot of Organization Products
Bins, dividers and storage boxes are often helpful when you’re organizing a closet. However, there is a limit to how useful they are. They also can take up space themselves. If you are depending on your organizers to do the work, you’ll be very disappointed, and your closet will be unnecessarily cluttered. You should stick with items that are space saving. Things like smaller belt holders, flat dividers for shelves and things like that.
5. Have a System
If you have a small closet, it’s possible that you’ll think that it won’t be a problem to easily find items even if you don’t have them organized. But nothing is further from the truth. You can easily lose items. So you want to sort the clothes by the type of item and the types by their color.
These are the things that you can do to organize your closet even when it’s small. You’ll find that your clothes are looking better and you’re finding them a lot easier.
